Note: The backpack program is currently on hold (since mid 2020) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our partner school is currently providing a food pantry instead. We look forward to an end to the pandemic and a reboot of the program. In the meantime, if you want to make a monetary donation to the program feel free to contact us.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton started participating in the BackPack program in the summer of 2014.
We were approached by Al Schmitt, Director of Community Outreach from Holy Trinity to assist in providing backpacks for Kinnaman Elementary, which is in our parish boundary. It started with a handful of helpful parishioners filling 20-25 backpacks received from the school with tortilla, canned vegetables and fruit, applesauce, peanut butter and jelly, rice, beans, soup ramen mac n cheese, tuna, cereal milk, snacks and sometimes fresh apples/oranges. We appreciate the generosity of our parish community. Since then we now fill 100-150 backpacks for Kinnaman Elementary and about 200 backpacks for Aloha Huber Elementary monthy. There are now about 20 volunteers who come together on Tuesday and Wednesday to repackage beans, rice and snacks and fill the backpacks.
We received a grant from Legacy Hospital initiated by one of our parishioners. Al Schmitt has for the last two years applied for a grant from the city of Beaverton that is distributed among the four churches servicing fifteen schools.
